Does punishing a child make them understand what they have done wrong? We have selected this video because it gives us new insights into the effects of Punishment.

The fact is that punishment doesn’t focus our kids attention on what they did wrong, or why it wasn’t the right thing for them to do, or even what they should have done instead.  Punishment just focuses the punished person on finding ways to avoid punishment again. This usually involves a decision to hide subsequent misbehaviour from the person who has punished them, rather than motivating a child to behave differently.
